Report: Feyzan Lakhani. Karachi is known as the city of awakening, but during the month of Ramadan, the excitement and activities of the city increase even more. From iftar to suhoor, young people are seen with various activities and sports competitions have become an important part of these activities.
Such an interesting and exciting event was witnessed at the Ziauddin Park, Karachi, where the Raka Volleyball Tournament was held for two days, and was celebrated along with the vibrant culture of Karachi.
According to the organizer of that event, Amna Rashid Khan, the Raka Volleyball competition started as an internal competition among a few friends with only six teams, but over time this event has grown and now more than forty teams participate. He said that the purpose of this tournament is not only a competition in the field of sports, but it is an opportunity for people to gather in one place and spend time in a good atmosphere, that’s why this event looks like a festival.
More than 40 teams including male and female players of different ages participated in the tournament. The peculiarity of this event was that it was a purely amateur tournament in which professional players were not allowed to participate.
In order to make the competition more balanced, the teams were divided into three different categories based on the quality of their game, including killer, thriller and chiller. The Chillers category consisted of less experienced players, while the Thrillers consisted of mid-level teams.
Murtaza Lakda’s team won in the category of chillers with less experienced players and Hatim Aftab’s team won the theater championship.
At the highest level was the Color category where talented players participated and the title of this category was won by Ali Rehman’s team.
The leader of the winning team, Ali Rehman, said that this time the competition was very tough because many strong teams participated in the color category. According to him, his team won the final after a tough competition. He said that the joy of winning the title has its place, but more than that, the joy of participating in this great tournament.
The players who participated in this event said that they enjoyed the tournament the most. According to him, the sports activities in the month of Ramadan in Karachi are not only limited to cricket but there are also big competitions in other sports. He said that such events also provide an opportunity for new talents to emerge.
During the volleyball tournament, a party was held in the park and the children were also interested in the game. The 13-year-old fan Ahmed Shahbazkar, who participated in the event, said that volleyball is not only a game for adults, children can also participate in this game and encouraged them to compete with older players here.
This volleyball festival held during the nights of Ramadan in Karachi once again seemed to convey the message that sports in this city is not limited to winning and losing, rather it is part of the heartbeat of the city, and the festival-style tournaments are the first stepping stone for future players.
