ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting commented on Australia’s “very poor” campaign, saying the team had won just one of three matches and their chances of reaching the Super Eight stage were over.

The former Australian captain cited injured players and poor early performances as the main reasons for the failure.

Ponting said that the unexpected defeat against Zimbabwe and the loss of six wickets in the last match against Sri Lanka proved to be detrimental to the team.

He also pointed to a lack of “attitude and experience” in previous Australian teams compared to the current team.

Regarding the future, he said that the next T20 World Cup 2028 could include some current players like Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head and Josh Ingles, while the future of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoins is doubtful.

Ricky Ponting said that winning ICC trophies should be the highest goal for any Australian cricketer and the current team should face their mistakes to achieve future success.
