The most important athletics of the National Games and its most important event, the 100 meters race, took place on Monday.
The men’s 100m race saw a fierce battle between runners, with WAPDA’s Samiullah Khan completing the distance in 10.30 seconds to become Pakistan’s fastest male athlete. Soldiers Usman and Rashid Riaz won silver and bronze medals.
WAPDA Olympian Faiqa Riaz won the women’s 100m and became Pakistan’s fastest female athlete, covering the distance in 11.7 seconds.
Khewla Umar received a silver medal from HEC, Temin Khan received a bronze medal from the army.
The javelin throw competition also took center stage at the athletics event at the Pakistan Navy Sports Complex on Monday, with Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem in action.
Ershad Nadim won the gold medal by throwing 81.81 meters, Yasir Sultan the silver medal and Abrar the bronze medal.
In the women’s pole vault, American athlete Noreen Hussain representing the Pakistan Army won the gold medal.
In other athletics events, Maria of WAPDA won the women’s 10,000m, Talha Salim of the army won the steeplechase, Ansar Abbas of the navy won the long jump, Noreen Fatima of WAPDA won the women’s high jump, Jamshed Ali of the army won the men’s shot put Muhammad Ehmskhtar 50.
Another 12 gold medals will be revealed in the athletics competition on Tuesday.
