Owners of IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad have added Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed to the squad for the 2026 England Hundred League.
According to reports, Sunrisers Leeds bought Abrar Ahmed for 190 thousand pounds (more than 7 billion Pakistani rupees) in the players’ auction of The Hundred League.
Abrar Ahmed became the first Pakistani player to sign a contract with an Indian team in this tournament.
Ahead of the auction, speculations were rife that IPL-affiliated owners would opt for Pakistani players.
However, the team’s head coach, Daniel Vettori, dismissed these concerns and said that the team only selected players based on performance and need.
He said that initially they tried to get England leg-spinner Adil Rashid, but after that failed, the search for foreign spinners started.
According to Daniel Vettori, Rashad Hussain of Bangladesh and Usman Tariq of Pakistan were also on the list, but in the end Abrar Ahmed was selected.
Finally, a Pakistani player has been picked by an Indian owned franchise!
Sunrisers Leeds, managed by owner Kavya Maran, have seen Daniel Vettori express interest in mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed.
The franchise finally won the bidding war against Trent Rockets, securing him for £190,000. https://t.co/o5SN3Q95MQ pic.twitter.com/gpgJFcuQmg
