One of the world’s greatest badminton players announced his withdrawal from the India Open tournament due to heavy pollution in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
World No. 3 Andre Antonsson stated in his social media that due to the bad air quality in Delhi, he decided not to participate in the event.
The Danish player also stated that he was fined 5,000 dollars by the Badminton World Federation for not participating.
André Antonsson also shared a screenshot from IQ Air, a Swiss air quality monitoring company, which reported Delhi’s air quality index as 348 on Wednesday, which is considered ‘very poor’.
He wrote that due to the severe pollution in Delhi, he did not think that the badminton tournament should be held here.
