The video of former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath’s reaction went viral during the commentary.
On the second day of the third Test of the Ashes series, spinner Lyon overtook McGrath in the wickets.
When spinner Nathan Lyon took the lead in the wickets McGrath reacted by picking up a chair.
The 38-year-old Lyon took his 564th wicket in his 141st Test, overtaking pace legend Glenn McGrath to become the sixth-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history.
Glenn McGrath’s hilarious reaction was caught on camera in the commentary box, where he appeared to make a joking gesture to smash his chair to the floor.
McGrath later praised Lyon saying that Nathan Lyon really deserved the honor and that his first innings was brilliant, while also dismissing Ollie Pope on Lyon.
After setting the record, Nathan Lyon said, “I used to consider Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath as my heroes as a kid and it’s a great honor to pass McGrath.”
He says that he will remember this moment until the end of his career, but the credit of this success goes to the other players of the team as well.
Nathan Lyon now trails England’s Stuart Broad (604 wickets) and India’s Anil Kumble (619), while Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800) holds the most wickets in Test cricket, followed by Shane Warne 708 and Jimmy Anderson 704.
Notably, Lyon has maintained his fitness and form after not playing limited-overs international cricket in recent years.
Although he was recently dropped from the one-day-night Test, his performance in Adelaide proved that he is still indispensable to the Australian team.
