The Iranian Football Federation has started official discussions with the FIFA Federation regarding the transfer of all its matches of the 2026 World Cup from the United States.

According to the head of the Iran Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, our team cannot go to America due to security issues, and that is why they are trying to move Iran’s matches to Mexico.

Mehdi Taj announced in a statement that if US President Donald Trump himself cannot guarantee the safety of the Iranian team, then it is impossible to go to America in such situations, and that is why negotiations with FIFA are ongoing in this regard.

It is worth mentioning that until now FIFA has not responded to Iran’s request. Iran had refused to play in America due to security concerns.

On the other hand, Iran’s sports authorities say that the team’s participation in the World Cup may be in jeopardy due to the recent tensions.

It is worth mentioning that Iran was the pride of the first Asian team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and this competition has been played together in the countries of America, Canada and Mexico since June 11.

Iran will play their three matches in the American group G, the first match against New Zealand on June 15, the second against Belgium on June 21 and the third and final match of the group against Egypt on June 26.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said last week that he welcomes Iran’s participation, but pointed out that it is not appropriate for them to play for their own safety and security in America.
