England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Chief Executive Richard Gould issued a comprehensive statement following Australia’s 4-1 defeat in the 2025-26 Ashes series.
Richard Gould said that this Ashes tour started with great hopes and expectations but we did not achieve the goal of winning the Ashes in Australia which is very disappointing.
He said that during the series, there were certainly some strong performances and resilience from England, an example being the Boxing Day Test, but overall, the team could not maintain consistency in all situations and phases.
The ECB president admitted that the Australian team played better but now all our focus is on getting the Ashes back in 2027.
Richard Gould said a full review of the series is underway, which will include a comprehensive assessment of tour planning and preparation, individual performance, player behavior and ability to cope with changing conditions.
He said the England team will now travel to Sri Lanka, where preparations will begin ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and necessary changes will be implemented in the coming months.
The ECB president thanked Cricket Australia for the hospitality provided during the visit and also paid tribute to the fans who supported the English team.
