Sydney Thunder captain and star Australian batsman David Warner has re-signed with the club for the Big Bash League 16. He took this decision after an outstanding individual performance in BBL 15.
Australia’s 39-year-old David Warner proved last season that he is still among Australia’s best batsmen. He scored two unbeaten centuries in BBL 15.
Despite missing two matches due to injury, Warner became the league’s top scorer with 433 runs at a strike rate of 154.
The former Australian Test opener has reached 1,139 runs in the Big Bash League and is set to add to that tally next season.
David Warner spoke about the matter and said: “I am very happy to play another season with Sydney Thunder. The great support of our fans played a big role in my decision.
“I think I still have a lot left in me, I’m proud to give the team a fighting chance with my performance,” he added. We have started to put together the season and accordingly plan for a strong comeback in BBL 16.
Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland said: “We are delighted that David Warner will be staying with us for another season. He has been among the greatest T20 players in the world for the last 15 years and is still regarded as one of the best batsmen in the BBL. His fitness and leadership skills are outstanding.”
