ICC president Jay Shah along with coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Surya Kumar Yadav came under fire for taking the T20 World Cup trophy to the temple.

Lok Sabha member and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team Kirti Azad said in a statement on the social media website X that if the cup cannot go to mosques and churches, why was it taken to a temple.

He said that Muhammad Siraj cannot take the World Cup trophy to the mosque, so why was this done? This trophy belongs to 140 billion Indians and does not belong to any religion.

Kirti Azad said Gautam Gambhir and Surya Kumar along with ICC President Jay Shah took the trophy to the temple.

He asked how much the ICC president went to the temple?

Kirti Azad informed that the team that won the World Cup in 1983 has players from all religions.
