South Africa defeated India by 76 runs in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, after the Indian broadcaster’s satirical promo released before the match backfired.

The pre-match advertisement showed South Africa as weak and India as a symbol of dominance.

In the promo, with the metaphor of a cup, the victory of the Indian team was assured and they said that history will repeat itself once again and South Africa will be defeated.

However, the situation in the field was completely different. South Africa not only defeated India by a huge margin but also handed Team India their worst defeat in terms of runs in the T20 World Cup.

After the match, users on social media lashed out at the Hindi broadcast, which resulted in the controversial promo being quietly deleted.

Cricket fans say that premature claims and sarcastic campaigns often put pressure on teams, while South Africa proved with its performance that only the game decides the outcome on the field.
