The Pakistan cricket team has lodged a formal complaint with the match referee Naeem Rashid regarding the controversial decision of the umpire during the third ODI played in Mirpur.
According to media reports, the Pakistan team management has objected to field umpire Kumar Dharmasena allowing Bangladesh to conduct an LBW check. Pakistan claims that Bangladesh caught the review when replays of the ball were shown on the stadium’s big screen.
The incident happened in the second to last ball of the third ODI, when Pakistan needed 12 runs to win. Bangladesh’s Rushd Hussain’s leg ball went to the leg side which was declared wide by the umpire.
After some debate, Bangladesh got the LBW review, even though the ball was clearly away from batsman Shaheen Afridi’s body. Pakistan says that according to the rules, a review decision should be made until the players are seen playing again, but a replay of the ball was shown on the big screen.
The tracking of the ball in DRS came before the chip when the ball passed near the bottom of the bat, after which Wide’s decision was overruled. As a result, Pakistan needed 12 runs from one ball.
Shaheen Afridi scored in the last over and Bangladesh won the match by 11 runs and took the series 1-2.
It may be noted that this is the second match in a row in which Pakistan expressed displeasure over the decisions, before Salman Ali Akha expressed his anger over the spill for which he was fined one demerit point and 50% of the match fee by the ICC.
